This is a short film that follows the story of a girl coping with the grief of a traumatic experience and decides to take her own life. However, in the film the audience does not learn a lot about the protagonist as there is a narration over the top from a concerned friend on the answering machine, this does not describe the protagonist, but instead the events that occurred. Although this narration is throughout it is not learnt exactly what happened, its just the friend trying to comfort the girl while she fills a bath. However we are to understand that the event in question was quite traumatic for the girl and could be a social commentary on the victims of rape and showing that not all people that suffer such a tragic event can cope with the repercussions afterwards.

The techniques used by Indie & Malan are interesting and add a lot to the story the audience is seeing unfold. If the sound was taken out of this film then it would be about a girl filling a bath tub. Thus the audience gets a seemingly peaceful tone as it makes us think that the film is going to harmless and just about a daily routine. However, once the narration is placed over top the films tone changes to that of a more sinister one. The narration alone makes the viewers start to assume that the girl is going to end her own life, as they hear the "friend" on the phone saying that he wishes he could be there to comfort her and help her through. He also sounds concerned that she is alone which leads the audience to the believe strongly that she is going to kill herself.

Another sound that adds to the sinister tone of this piece is the tap dripping in the background, this helps the audience associate the film with the feeling of loneliness and emptiness that is seen in the girl. This sound makes her become that of an empty shell and tells the audience that she has come to terms with ending her life and leaving everything behind as she believes that she is nothing and believes that she has nothing to live for anymore after this event. This drip also shows that she feels alone as it is one single drip throughout alone and echoing. This shows that her loneliness is vast and she feels alone in this massive world.

A nice technique Indie and Malan decided to use in this piece is the ghosting camera effect as the protagonist is getting into the bath. This really doubles down on the idea that the girl is a empty shell or a ghost of herself. Thus the film is showing that she has come to terms with the end of her life and is okay to leave the world behind. In the two clips that make up this she is doing two separate actions. In the darker clip she is just ducking down to get in the bath as this ghost has seemingly already decided to kill herself. However, the lighter ghost is looking around concerned as if she can hear the narration from the phones answering machine. This shows that she may have had a second thought but the feeling of worthlessness and loneliness has taken over and is now controlling her actions.

The ghost effect is used throughout the film and feels as though it is a second version of herself watching her own suicide back and wondering if this was the right decision. Throughout this piece the ghost looks as though she is listening to the narration and wondering if she really was as alone as she thought. This then leads to the ghost looking concerned as if she doesn't think she should have done it and that she acted irrationally and shouldn't have taken her life. However, at the end of this piece we see that she has come to terms with her suicide as the ghost gets undressed and joins her in the bathtub where the two images merge together and become the one suicide. It feels as though this is the second time through this but its the first time the audience has seen it.

The films style is quite in keeping with the film we plan to create. We also plan to use one long shot similar to the one at the beginning of this film. Our shot will be of the protagonist sat in a chair as the climate and environmental issues play behind the character. However, we also plan to use some quickly cut shots in the projections and this will be light with bright colours making them different to the way this film was shot as it is entirely black and white. In the long seated shot there will also be some nice idealistic shots on the green screen mask the character will be wearing and these will also be coloured vividly.

We also use a desaturated look, leaving some colour in each shot to show the dull and apathetic world our character lives in. We are also going to use non sync sound. However, rather than using a voice over we will use sounds of climate altering and environment destroying human caused issues to push our message of the apathy the human race has towards the environment. This is similar as in this film Indie & Malan have used the voice over and drip to tell the audience whats happening without spelling it out for them.
